Vanilla Ice Cream WIP

Just finished my layins for the short story im tinkering around with. Its a true story I over heard in a coffee shop about a guy going solo climbing(no ropes, no harnesses, no nothing) and almost dies during the climb but is rescued from someone hiking. After pulling the guy to safety, the stranger asks the climber what he want more than anything in the world at that moment. The mystery man said it had to be something simple and not a thing like sex. The climber replies with ice cream and they both go to the nearest spot for it. the climber gets vanilla ice cream and both he and the stranger go their separate ways.

The climber never got the chance to get the mans contact info or even a name. Just a better appreciation for life and a new favorite flavor of ice cream.

A bit of fanart...

So I love Portland, OR. Its my Vegas, but why you might ask? Because it has all the things there but way more affordable and weirder, which Oregon is just fine with.

Great food, fun bars, cool shopping areas, a decent comic book community, and, obviously because we're talking Vegas here, strip clubs. Which this leads me to the fanart of Elle Stanger. I dig a bit of ink, but this woman had tattoos done in such a way that it was as if a drawing I had done came to life. I got a lap dance from her and could only focus on the tats. Awesome symmetry and designs with the sleeves, garters and stockings.

Show Reel and its Breakdowns

-Breakdown-

Little Mermaid

Shot 1 - Nuke, Mocha, Proprietary Stereo Software
Cleanplated away everything in shot that was in front of the background. Using the cleanplates, I brought back all of the elements using merge operations in nuke to match the original footage 1:1 using depth maps.

Shot 2 - Nuke, Mocha, Proprietary Stereo Software
Created plate without mutants/mermaids. Also recreated some background characters when foreground mutants turned into mermaids. Removed white falling debris. Recreated sparkles. Recompiled everything back into stereo using depth maps, keys, and roto.

Man Of Steel

Shot 1 - Nuke, Proprietary Stereo Software
Removed any rubble or debris that crossed over people. Also removed same large pieces of rubble off ground. Made cleanplates to remove characters off one another. Recompiled everything back into  stereo using depth maps, keys, and roto.

Shot 2 - Nuke, Proprietary Stereo Software
Created roto and cleanplates for shot. Removed the helicopter by piecing together the ground that did not have the helicopter over it to. Animated and distorted frozen frames of soldiers around for cleanplates. Color corrected away any spots that still had parts of the propellers within the shot.  Recompiled everything back into stereo using depth maps and roto.

Shot 3 - Nuke, Proprietary Stereo Software
Created revealing cleanplate for trees on the screen right of the shot. Removed all flares in shot by shuffling the red, green, and blue channels around. Recompiled everything back into stereo using depth maps and roto.

300:Rise of a Empire

Shot 1 - Nuke, Proprietary Stereo Software
Cleanplated boat to boat interactions due to the assets of them were in one render. Recompiled everything back into stereo using depth maps and roto.

Shot 2 - Nuke, Proprietary Stereo Software
Removed woman from off of background soldiers all of which was on green screen plate. Remaining effects were applied in VFX script. Recompiled everything back into stereo using depth maps and roto.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Shot 1 - Nuke, Proprietary Stereo Software
Completely removed any trace of foreground wire wall. In addition, removed foreground man, the table at the base of the shot, and characters in background. Recompiled everything back into stereo using depth maps, roto, a frozen frame of the FG wall and matched both details and transparencies to the original footage.

Shot 2 - Nuke, Proprietary Stereo Software
Did not receive elements of flying robots. Treated shot as is. Made cleanplates that removed foreground blankets, character, robots, and inner perimeter of room off of outer section of room. Recreated heat distortion from robots. Recompiled everything back into stereo using depth maps and roto.

Godzilla

Shot 1 - Nuke, Proprietary Stereo Software
Using a 3D camera track and geometry that I created, I produced a cleanplate that removed all characters from the footage. Also removed man who enters room as well as main woman off of background characters. Recompiled everything back into stereo using depth maps and roto.

Shot 2 - Nuke, Proprietary Stereo Software
For the conversion process, created cleanplates for various smoke and glow assets to removed wires and the foreground crane on the screen right side of shot. Used other VFX elements within script to speed up process. Recompiled everything back into stereo using depth maps and roto.

Shot 3 - Nuke, Proprietary Stereo Software
Due to some of the pieces of the shot being practical I needed to remove the foreground building. Also created cleanplates that removed buildings off of each other in the midground. Recompiled everything back into stereo using depth maps and roto.

Jupiter Assending

Shot 1 - Nuke, Proprietary Stereo Software
Removed wires and other foreground objects off of cyborg and anything behind him. Also cleanplated FG man off of his desk and wires. Recompiled everything back into stereo using depth maps and roto.

Shot 2 - Nuke, Proprietary Stereo Software
Worked on a RGBA plate with only the people. Made a cleanplate for every character off of each other. Placed elements into depth utilizing disparity and roto.

Shot 3 - Nuke, Proprietary Stereo Software
Removed arms off of the body from the dragon element. Recompiled everything back into stereo using depth maps and roto.

Insurgent

Shot 1 - Nuke, Proprietary Stereo Software
Cleanplated away the main three characters including the foreground defocused objects. Removed the defocused objects off the three main characters as well. Recompiled everything back into stereo using depth maps and roto.

Shot 2 - Nuke, Proprietary Stereo Software
Did not receive complete VFX script however using the final footage and some of the assets I completed the shot. Generated assets of bridges and a cleanplate of the shot without bridges or hanging wires. Removed tree coming at the camera towards the end of the shot. Placed elements into depth utilizing disparity and roto.

God its nice to have a life after work, or at least have the energy to do something artistic afterwards. This is just a WIP, I still got to define the stuff a bit more and add detail to the moss on the main tree thingy, maybe toss in some dudes to get a sense of scale to the picture.

Paint Tool Sai vs. Photoshop

So since I got my Cintiq I have been trying to find a way to use Photoshop for inking and coloring. The more I used it for inking the more I was getting turned off, so I did a search to see what else is out there for inking digitally and I came across Paint Tool Sai. Now the wolverine pic was done in Sai and the turtles were done in PS

Holy crap do I love this program! It hardly takes up any processing power, its responsiveness to the Cintiq is(I think) better in comparison to PS and inking process is very customizable. For example, when you ink with the pen tool, you can change the thickness, pressure and angle with each stroke after its made.

The selection tool in kind of unique Sai and is good for simple stuff and potentially be really good  if you can spend some time getting use to it, but PS is way more polished so I guess it can go down to preference for which you use. So I did the turtles pic first then the wolverine one second and because the inking was process was more enjoyable I felt like finishing it in Sai. I took more time with wolverine because I felt I could get a better level of detail. With the turtles pic I inked it using a regular pressure brush without any feather and did everything to get as little feather as possible but I couldnt get the fine lines that I wanted in comparison to Sai which turned me off to taking the image to the next level. I think what I am going to do from now on is ink and flat a image in Sai and then turn it over to PS.

Anyway that's what I think, I'll post more stuff by the end of the month, peace!
